Port-a-cath Surgery Results

Hello to Julie's friends and family, and those following Julie's progress. My name is Shalane and I am a neighbor and friend of Dave and Julie. Dave called me earlier to share an update on Julie.

As many of you know, this morning Julie went in for surgery to have a port-a-cath placed in her chest for Chemo treatments. During the surgery her right lung was punctured, causing the lung to collapse. This happens in about 1% of cases.

As I am typing this, she is in the hospital ER and planning to move to a room. Her regular surgeon, not the one who installed the port-a-cath, has promised to be available for her during her time in the hospital. As it stands, she will be receiving an X-ray tonight at 6pm and then again in the morning to monitor any improvements. If there is improvement, she will be able to go home tomorrow. If there is not, or if the situation worsens, her doctor will put a tube in her lung. The good news is that the port-a-cath is in and she will not have to go through another procedure.

Julie's doctor has also informed her that flight to Houston will not be possible. Because of this, Dave and Julie are looking for other avenues to obtain a second opinion about the course of treatment.

They have asked for me to convey to everyone that they greatly appreciate the outpouring of love, support and continued prayers. All of these are helping them get through this difficult time. Please continue to pray for them.

Dave will be staying this evening in the hospital with Julie. If anything should change, more will be posted as soon as something is known.

  1. Julie,
We are praying for you and your family. I have passed the link to your blog site to our church family at Ascension as well as to other friends and family. You are being prayed for by many who may not know you but who share your faith that the Lord hears our prayers and helps those who seek His Help. I will be talking with Carolyn Weigel to see how we can help you all in other ways.
