"Julie, you look wonderful this morning." Those were the first words Dr. Brown spoke when he came to check on Julie this morning at 9:30 a.m. And indeed Julie did look wonderful. Every nurse and hospital employee who saw her commented that they could not believe how well Julie looked after her surgery. Julie had recovered so well that we were discharged at 11:30 a.m. this morning!
We are home now and have both taken a very nice, long nap. Julie is eating, walking and laughing. We know that there were many, many prayers for us before, during, and after the surgery yesterday, and we thank each one of you for them. Yesterday was very tense -- more like a trial by fire. Fortunately, the Lord sent many wonderful people to stay with me while Julie was in the hospital. Our senior pastor, his wife and our music leader were of great comfort to me during those uncertain hours. And all through the day support remained strong with other friends, members of Berean, and members of the U.S. Attorney's Office stopping by.
We will now continue to help Julie recover from this surgery. She has two drains protruding from her left side which collect chest and lymphatic fluid that must be drained 4 times a day. This important task is mine, but no need to worry, the hospital staff did a great job showing me how to do it.
The most impressive person in all of this has been Julie. She was absolutely positive and radiant prior to surgery and her post-surgery attitude has been so uplifting to everyone she encounters. Thank you for your continued prayers and support as we move forward in our fight against cancer. We are so thankful you are with us!

Thank you for sharing this wonderful picture of how God gives beauty in trying times--the beauty of rejecting the seductive appeal of self-pity, the beauty of joyful service to one another, the beauty of a trusting heart. May the Lord continue to glorify Himself in you both. Gil and Sara Baker

Dave and Julie, I cannot thank you enough for this blog site. For all of us who care for Julie and your sweet family, it is such a blessing to be able to keep up with her progress with just a click of the mouse. Praise God for His strength, peace, and grace that has been given to you both in apparent abundance! It is a faith-builder for all of who are on the outside looking in. I sense a future ministry here...
ReplyDeleteContinuing to lift you all up in prayer,

Julie - I am so glad to hear that your surery went well and you are feeling so well so soon afterward.
ReplyDeleteDave - Hang in there. We have never had the pleasure of meeting, but I can tell that you are a GREAT husband and father!
All our best to you and the kids. You are always in our prayers.
Mason & Allison
May the Lord grant you an interval of rest and peace and simple joy in being a family together now that the surgery is past and before chemo begins. Gil and Sara
